NBCUniversal Owned Television Stations announced that Jorge Carballo, the current president and general manager of Telemundo 51/WSCV will oversee operations for NBC 6/WTVJ, effective January 1, 2020.
WSCV and WTVJ are NBCUniversal’s local television stations that serve English and Spanish-speaking audiences throughout the Miami-Fort Lauderdale market. In his expanded role, Carballo will manage all station operations including WTVJ and WSCV news departments, digital, sales, marketing/promotions, community affairs, and operations/technology teams. He will report to Valari Staab, president, NBCUniversal Owned Television Stations.
“Jorge is one of the most dedicated local broadcasters that I know. He believes in the power that local news can have on our communities and empowers the WSCV team to be relentless in their pursuit of journalistic excellence to help make a difference in our viewers’ lives,” commented Staab. “As GM, he’s helped Telemundo 51 achieve unprecedented ratings milestones resulting in WSCV becoming one of the strongest stations in the country – in any language.”
With a career that spans more than 30 years in Miami TV and radio newsrooms, including 26 years at WSCV in both sales and station management roles, Carballo has helped WSCV become South Florida’s news leader and the most-watched station in the market from sign-on to sign off, in all key demo groups and regardless of language.
“The NBC 6 team is strong and its news brand is well respected. Together, both stations will be stronger,” added Carballo.
