Julio César Chávez, along with his wife Myriam and children Nicole and Cristian, presented the reality show Los Chávez, which premieres on Disney+ on September 11. Produced by Cinemat for the platform, the show delves into the personal and intimate life of the Mexican boxing champion.
The athlete walked the red carpet with his family and said that the show will showcase more than just the champion, “You will see the human being I am, someone many people will likely relate to.”
“It’s time to launch this reality show. In the past, it wasn’t a priority for me because of the tough times my family was going through. But thanks to this project, I was able to enjoy my time with all my children. This is a show people will connect with, as it also talks about overcoming addiction and how I’ve helped many people. I can now talk about my 15 years free from addiction and send a message to parents and young people about the future ahead of them. Perseverance, hard work, and discipline can make things happen,” he said.
He emphasized that while people know him as a world boxing champion, “beneath it all, I am a human being who cries and suffers, and that will also be shown in this project.”
The production also features Myriam Chávez, Julio’s wife, and their children Cristian, Nicole, Julio César Jr., and daughter-in-law Frida Muñoz, along with other sports and entertainment personalities. The boxer hinted that the show will present an unfiltered Julio, showing him as a happy person, father, grandfather, and son.
For Cristian and Nicole, the reality show brought them closer as a family and helped them see a different side of their father. “Our family has always been very public, and the problems have always been there. But now, viewers will see how we bond, face adversities, and also how we have fun.”
Chávez also noted that filming took place during a family crisis, and initially, he didn’t want the show to reveal too much. “We were worried about my son Julio’s life, but my wife encouraged me to go through with it, and here we are, presenting it.”
Los Chávez consists of six 45-minute episodes and carries the tagline: Outside the ring, the blows hit harder. Additionally, the theme song of the show, El César del Box, performed by the Mexican regional music group Banda MS, was released on various music platforms in honor of Julio César, who stars in the music video.
In the video, the boxer and the band share special moments in the ring, with scenes of Chávez and his family, which are part of the series. The audience will also witness the emotional moment when the champion hears the song for the first time.
