Narda Zuluaga, Sales Executive for Latin America and Spain at Kanal D, was at NATPE Showcase with Ríchard Izarra presenting the most compelling of the company’s catalog of new content: two romantic comedies, a medical drama, and a melodrama about three sisters. She assured that there is still room and hunger for Turkish content in Latin America. The Colombian native executive added that although she has only been in her new position for four months, the industry has given her great support.
Among the productions that Kanal D markets in its virtual meetings, the following stand out:
THREE SISTERS
A Turkish melodrama that has not yet defined its number of episodes or seasons because it is still being recorded. It is expected to air at the end of February. It is the adaptation of a book with the same name by a Turkish writer named İclal Aydın. “It is a story that conveys, above all, life with an emotional depth based on family ties. It is produced by Süreç Film and directed by Eda Teksöz,” said Zuluaga. “It tells the story of three sisters: Türkan, Dönüş and Derya, as well as their relationship with their parents. It’s a very united family, always dreaming of a promising future. The three sisters, who grew up in the idyllic coastal town of Ayvalık, moved to Istanbul for different reasons. There they face the harsh reality of life, and live their transition from childhood to adulthood; at that moment they realize that the fairytale childhood they had did not prepare them to face that world.”
LOVE TRAP
“This is the first of two romantic comedies that we are presenting. It had excellent audience numbers in Turkey and was chosen as the content of the summer in 2020 by the viewers,” reported Zuluaga. This story tells the life of Kerem, a rich boy, and Ayşe, a humble woman who works in Kerem’s father’s company. For different reasons and Turkish traditions, both are pressured by their parents to get married, but their fiancés are not the people they want to be with. The young people put together a plan to marry each other, and they end up falling in love for real.
TWIST OF FATE
This production is the other romantic comedy offered by Kanal D. “This time our protagonist (Bora), is a very successful millennial, editor and head of an Internet site, who becomes an online celebrity, but he does not believe in love nor that life is a fairy tale. While his counterpart, Ada, is a very different character, she is an orphan raised by her aunts and very superstitious uncles, who believed that in order to have a happy life she should marry her first great love. Everything that Bora and Ada thought about love begins to change when they meet,” Zuluaga mentioned. This is one of the favorites of the Turkish audience today, which has been demanding a new season via social networks.
HEKIMOGLU
This fourth and final featured content is a medical drama. It is a remake of the American series, Dr. House, voted in Turkey as the best adaptation made in the country. “It’s about this nephrologist who heals with his extraordinary methods, who is very rebellious, but very ingenious at the same time. Each chapter is a new case. The series, of course, covers themes of love, sacrifice, camaraderie, discipline, and humanity”, said Zuluaga.
