Volver a Caer, the new series of Kate del Castillo, founder of Cholawood Productions, is an example of her proposal that aims to tell exciting and high-quality everyday stories to the audience in the region. For the actress and producer Latin America needs a brotherhood among producers and talent, and also to encourage investment.
“At Cholawood Productions, we are always looking for strong and new stories, different from what we’re already so tired of seeing, especially in Spanish. Our partners from Endemol Shine USA presented us with this Australian format that we Mexicanized. I saw it and fell in love with it because it has characters I want to play and stories I want to tell. It is a classic, but our challenge was to make it something different than the Anna Karenina we all know,” she said.
She noted that she does not like what she sees in Latin America. However, she does not blame the lack of talent, but the budget deficit. “As a Latino community, we are not supporting each other in the US, we’re shrinking. We need to tell great stories and show quality content. As a producer, we want to go mainstream at a level that I as a consumer want to see.”
The six-episode ViX+ Original series is a contemporary version of Leo Tolstoy’s classic Anna Karenina, one of literature’s greatest love stories. It is based on the 2015 adaptation by Endemol Shine Australia (Banijay). It is directed by Hari Sama and written by Almudena Ocaña and Aurora García Tortosa.
