During the presentation of their 2017-2018 Upfront, that took place on Thursday, April 6 in Miami, Azteca America, presented two original series for primetime, El Muro (50×60’), a VIP 2000 TV production for the network and El Manicomio, a BluePrint production.
Manuel Abud, president and CEO of the network, welcomed a large group of advertisers, agencies, and media to the presentation held in the SLS Brickell Hotel. “Tonight we are officially launching Azteca Miami, channel 8 (WGEN) that starting now, turns Azteca America into an important player in the Miami market,” highlighted Abud. He mentioned that with the addition of this station and San Diego’s Azteca 33 on Entravisión, the network is present in 65 markets.
Margarita Black, VP of Programming, announced in dramatic series Vis a Vis by Atresmedia and Relatos Misteriosos, and in sports the show Knockout. She indicated that for third consecutive year, they will be home to Miss Universe and this year the franchise will have more presence with the special program Camino a la corona.
For his part, Craig Geller, EVP, Network and Digital Sales, highlighted that unlike the rest of the market, the channel´s audience spends 58% more time watching Azteca than last season. “A significant 28% growth”.
Enrique Pérez, EVP of Azteca America Station Group, spoke about the new show on Azteca channel 8 Miami, Al Aire Miami, hosted by the comedian Tony Benítez and the veteran journalist Ricardo Brown.
