Liberty Global joins Hemisphere Media Group Inc. to make an acquisition offer to Univision Communications Inc., reported Bloomberg. Hemisphere had already been announced as one of the three potential buyers.
The other two interested are the private capital firm Platinum Equity, as well as the former financial director of Viacom, Wade Davis, with the backing of third-party financing, as reviewed The Wall Street Journal previously.
The company Liberty Global, that has the multimillionaire John Malone as Chairman, has several assets, including satellite radio service Sirius, the franchise of the Atlanta Bravos, as well as Liberty Latin America. The company has a market value of US$12.4 billion.
Hemisphere Media Group, whose headquarters are in Miami and is led by Alan Sokol, has several channels in Spanish in the US, in Latin America, and in Puerto Rico, such as Cinelatino and WAPA America. Since it is a smaller country, with a market capitalization of approximately US$550 million, less than Univision, it is known since then that they might need a partner to make the offer, which is why they appear on the Liberty Global landscape.
It is expected that by February the final offers are presented, and details are revealed. which would be evaluated by the shareholders of Univision, expressed Bloomberg.
