The Mediapro Studio and TelevisaUnivision announce that filming is underway on Las Pelotaris (working title), the first series resulting from the strategic agreement reached between the two companies for the production of exclusive content for VIX+, the premium level of subscription video on demand (SVOD) streaming services, which debuted on July 21.
Marc Cistaré is the creator of this story and heads a team of screenwriters composed of Adriana Rivas, Javier Naya, and Mexico’s Anaí López.
Jesús Rodrigo is in charge of directing the 8 episodes, with the director of Photography Chechu Graf and Fernando González as Art director.
With the series being shot on location in Mexico and Spain, Las Pelotaris features Laura Fdez. Espeso, Javier Pons and Marc Cistaré as executive producers for The Mediapro Studio and Natalia Echeverri and Gabriela Remirez for ViX+.
Series creator and executive producer for The Mediapro Studio Marc Cistaré said, “Las Pelotaris is the story of women dreamers, fighters, but above all of the pioneers. Women who face prejudice to live their lives and their professions to the fullest. Women who are admired, while at the same time hated, because they did what they were not supposed to do. We wish to pay tribute to them with this series.”
“With world-class talent both in front of and behind the camera and filmed at such iconic international locations, this thrilling drama will take audiences back in time and transport them back to the 1920s to learn the story of pioneering women who broke barriers to succeed,” said Vincenzo Gratteri, senior vice president of development at ViX+.
Filming on the series got underway in Mexico at such iconic locations as the capital’s main square, more commonly known as the Zócalo, and the Gran Hotel Ciudad de México, as well as the magical town of Tepoztlán and the paradisiacal enclave of Las Estacas, before more recently moving to Spain, where filming continues in Madrid and Guadalajara, with special emphasis on scenes shot in the Basque Country, and place of origin of the ball game.
