Mediapro U.S. and Televisa have signed an agreement to develop and co-produce a minimum of three original premium series. The deal between both companies was struck at the end of 2018 and spans a 3 year period.
Under the agreement, both companies will participate in the development of various premium series. Production of each project will be carried out by Televisa in Mexico, while Mediapro will be in charge of the creative direction making it possible to produce a product on an international scale.
The deal also includes that all new content development, created specifically for Televisa market or a third party broadcaster, will be first distributed in the Mexican and U.S. market and then will be distributed internationally. Thus, in order to boost these new contents with Televisa’s audience leadership.
The first original project is Unwanted, a scripted series created by Ran Tellem, a producer on Homeland and current Head of International Content Development at Mediapro, and Mariano Baselga, executive producer of El Internado. The series is being co-developed between Televisa and Mediapro under the creative direction of Camila Misas, Content Director for Televisa and Mariano Baselga from Mediapro Spain.
The second original series to launch is Stroke, created by Oficina Burman. It is a fictional series telling the story of a man who wanted everything and felt he could do it all while balancing two divorces, several children and hectic daily life. All seems in order until an extraordinary event turns his world upside down and presents new challenges. The 62-episode series will air in 2020 in Televisa’s Canal de las Estrellas in Mexico and Univisión in the U.S. The creative team of this production is led by Argentina’s Daniel Burman, who currently holds the position as Head of Content for Mediapro in the U.S.
