Rodrigo Mazon, VP Content Acquisitions at Netflix, assured that when it is time to evaluate projects, they enter in different phases, however, in general, they prefer to do so in the initial stages, because that allows them to get involved and understand the voice of the creator and his vision.
“As for genres, we focus on many, from dramas and novelas, passing through action, all the way to horror and science fiction. We are seeking to have a vast variety to please all the Netflix members,” he expressed. The platform has 139 million subscribers in the whole world.
Mazon stated that they are increasing their acquisitions year by year exponentially and the main requirement in the evaluation of programs is quality. He also mentioned that co-productions have a very high value for Netflix and they are working well with their partners in the region.
Moreover, he mentioned that as they have acquired more experience producing series, the platform has entered a phase in which it is moving to other formats like documentaries, non-fiction and stand up comedies, since these are the priorities in the region.
He highlighted La Reina del Sur 2, from Telemundo, that will be available in the second half of the year and Jugar con Fuego, by Telemundo International Studios and Globo, as “projects that thrilled them a great deal,” along with others that they will soon announce.
