Netflix will make 10 original productions in Argentina during 2018. This was confirmed by Ted Sarandos, the platform’s executive director of Contents. These include the production of Go! Vive A Tu Manera, Netflix’s first children-youngster’s series, created by Sebastián Mellino and produced by Víctor Tevah.
A four-episode documentary on Boca Juniors and a film on Juan Manuel Fangio were also announced. They will also have the launch of Edha, the first original series made in the country, produced by Daniel Burman starring Juana Viale.
“Latin America is the territory with the biggest growth for Netflix,” said Sarandos.
The Pope, starring Jonathan Price and Anthony Hopkins on the relation between Pope Benedict and Pope Francis, that will start being shot in the next few weeks in Buenos Aires, is another addition.
When consulted on Disney’s decision to launch their own OTT during 2018, he commented that the big ones will all do this eventually and that is why they are increasingly producing more of their own content and are going to depend on less on third parties.
Todd Yelli, Product VP at Netflix, commented that they use algorithms to put the right content, in front of the right person, and on the correct device, and that they improved the interface to choose contents.
He added that the audience now has the possibility to watch films and series with subtitles or dubbed, according to their preference and that they will add interactive stories, mainly for the children’s audience.
