The recordings of the new TelevisaUnivision telenovela, Papás Por Conveniencia, starring Ariadne Díaz and José Ron, began under the production of Rosy Ocampo, who decided to rest the Vencer franchise to present this original content, which central theme is single-parent families. It also appeals to nostalgia by putting together leading couples from kid’s and youth telenovelas produced years ago by her.
To offer innovative content different from what is on current TV, the production company, together with the team of writers led by Pedro Armando Rodríguez, searched for relevant societal issues, building the story on three axes:
The first has to do with the family, addressing the evolving reality of families in Mexico, where over 40% no longer follow the traditional mom-dad-and-children structure. Second, it injects a dose of nostalgia by featuring beloved characters from classic children’s telenovelas like El Diario de Daniela, Alebrijes y Rebujos, and Antes Muerta que Lichita. Finally, the show brings back the music that defined those shows, featuring remastered versions of the original themes alongside new music, he explained.
During the slate event opening the recordings, held at the core location in the west of Mexico City, Ocampo introduced the cast part of this new project that will premiere on October 21 at 8:30pm. José Ron and Ariadne Díaz joined other actors such as África Zavala, Ferdinando Valencia, Lambda García, Daniela Luján, Martín Ricca, María Chacón and Miguel Martínez.
The production also partnered with Population Media Center, a non-profit championing social change. They create and spread messages to prevent teen pregnancy, gender-based violence, and sexually transmitted infections.
Papás Por Conveniencia follows Tino (José Ron), a single dad struggling to raise his two kids. His world gets turned upside down when he discovers he also has teenage twins with Aidé (Ariadne Díaz), a former high school classmate who’s now a powerful business magnate. Forced together, Tino and Aidé must create a new family, facing a critical choice: can they build something real, or was their union just a matter of convenience?
