Olympusat, Inc. announced that it won Best Screenplay for Sofía, a feature-length film at the 3rd Edition of the Festival Cine Marbella in Marbella, Spain on June 02, 2019.
Sofía is produced by Olympusat and Altovoltaje Films It has a run time of 90 minutes and is directed by Famor Botero.
With its seamless editing, snappy dialogue and cinematography drawing from every nuanced ounce of the beautiful color palette offered by Santander, Colombia where it is filmed, Sofía is not so much concerned with following the arc of a typical romantic drama than it is telling the story of female empowerment in a macho world dominated by men whose own implacable self-interests are often the rule of the land.
So, it’s no surprise that despite Sofía (Paola Rey) being responsible for the well-being of three relatives, her self-centered brother Fabio, (Andrés Bejar) is intent on selling the family home leaving his sister and relatives to an uncertain fate. Further complicating matters is that Sofía has long been stifled under the thumb of her lifelong boyfriend Julio (Famor Botero). That all changes when an intriguing stranger named Oscar (Christian Carabias) shows up in town to repair an old bridge. One scene in particular, in which Sofía is seen in long shot crossing from one side of the old bridge to the other, suggests a perfect metaphor for her transformation from a dispirited, caged sparrow to a soaring example of how one can draw strength from an unfavorable environment—and eventually find the motivation to embark on a life lived under her own terms.
