Paramount+’s launch in the region is supported by a strong production boost. “We are making progress towards our goal of green-lighting more than 30 new originals from Latin America this year,” says Laura Pérez, Senior VP of Content Distribution for LatAm and General Director of North LatAm Hub, Mexico, Colombia, and Latin America, Paramount.
The production company is working on the second season of Los Enviados (The Envoys), an eight-episode series launched in December. For Pérez, it is an example of the important contribution of Mexico to the company. VIS produced the series together with renowned director and screenwriter Juan José Campanella and was filmed in Mexico City. Los Enviados, with Miguel Ángel Silvestre and Luis Gerardo Méndez, was the most watched Spanish scripted series on Paramount+ in the US.
They also are developing the second part of Cecilia, with Mariana Treviño. “The success of these premieres shows that our goal of becoming the main producer of content in Spanish in the world was correct.” Asesino del Olvido, Parot and Días Mejores are also part of the trail of success.
Among the list of titles in production are At midnight, with Diego Boneta and Mónica Bárbaro; and Bosé, with José Pastor and Iván Sanchez. In addition, Pérez mentioned: Love is love, El Gerente, Medusa, As followers, Funkbol, Adriano Imperador and Anderson Silva.
Paramount+ is currently in 23 markets, 18 of them in Latin America, and recently it reached 6.8 million subscribers, totaling almost 40 million worldwide. At the same time, its free streaming, Pluto TV, increased global monthly active users to almost 68 million.
