In its first three years of ViX, TelevisaUnivision will make a multi-billion US$ investment in content. “In 27 years being part of Spanish-language media, I have never seen a company invest so much in the Hispanic niche,” said Pierluigi Gazzolo, president and Chief Transformation Officer of TelevisaUnivision.
Just by adding 50 original ViX + titles in its first year plus the football rights, “you can get an idea of the magnitude of the investment,” he said.
Gazzolo could not reveal the rates handled for the premium service, but he said that they will be lower than those of the global streamers that are already in the region.
“Our mission will be to offer more original content in Spanish than any other streaming platform. With the integration of Televisa and Univisión, our collective history gives us an incredible experience in reaching the Spanish-speaking audience, and we will it to offer a premium streaming service to the hundreds of millions of Spanish-speakers around the world who want to see the diversity of their cultures, language, interests and experiences authentically represented and reflected on screen,” he said.
ViX will be available -in addition to the US and Mexico, where a select group has already access to the beta stage – in 17 Latin American countries. “For us, all of Latin America is important. Eventually we want to produce locally in Peru, Chile, Argentina. We want to reflect all Spanish-speaking communities. In fact, we have a couple of projects, which we cannot mention yet, that will be multicultural with several countries”, he explained.
