Poncho Pineda, director of Un Buen Divorcio, a production of Lemon Studios for ViX, said that it is a very human comedy with a central story and main characters (David, Mónica, and their family). Still, each episode features a new case of a couple going through a divorce.
“Although there is a linear story with the same characters, each episode portrays different universes,” he said. The series talks about people’s mistakes and how hard it is to be in a relationship. “Divorce is a widespread and recurring situation almost defining our generation: I have friends that have divorced twice, and I have married three times.”
On Billy Rovzar’s work as a writer and showrunner, Pineda highlighted that it took several meetings to understand his vision.
Pineda has 14 years of experience as a director; he began as an actor, working with his friends at a very young age. He explained that he fell in love with the job and studied in the US, where he leaped by directing his first film Amor, Dolor y Viceversa, his most authorial work, produced by Lemon Studios.
Since then, he has worked in productions such as Hasta Que Te Conocí, El César, Su Nombre Era Dolores, Who Killed Sara?, and Dos Más Dos. The first time PRODU interviewed him was in 2014 regarding his work in La Fiesta del Chivo by Producciones RTI and Televisa.
He considers that audiovisual production in Mexico has shifted towards a model of more care and quality, with platform executives participating closely. “We are taking great care of this project (Un Buen Divorcio) so the viewer connects and enjoys it,” he said.
