The most successful telenovela in history, Yo soy Betty, la Fea, according to the Guinness World Records, will have a sequel called Betty La Fea, exclusive for Prime Video and produced by RCN studios. It will be released in 2024, starring the same actors as the original story, Ana María Orozco (Cochina Envidia) and Jorge Enrique Abello (Ana de Nobody).
The new series is the story of the iconic Beatriz Pinzón Solano, Betty La Fea, 20 years after. While the empowered Betty is still married to Armando Mendoza, she reconstructs her relationship with her teenage daughter Mila and tries to cope with the crisis of her family company, and asks herself if 20 years ago she chose the right path that made her truly happy.
“Yo soy Betty, la fea had a healthy energy, with the huge impact that its main character generated on conventional beauty codes, which explains why it became a global franchise with which all women could be related,” said Francisco Morales, who leads the contents and acquisition strategy team for Latin America. “We are more than excited to collaborate with our RCN studios’ partners to bring the evolution of this universally attractive and inspiring story, to Prime Video clients worldwide.”
The team in charge of the development and script of this dramatic comedy includes Marta Betoldi (Ciega a Citas, Las Estrellas), Juan Carlos Pérez (Garzón), and César Betancur (Las Hermanitas Calle, La Selección). Valeria Gómez (Manes) and Luis Carlos Ávila (La Reina del Flow) also participate in the librettos. It is directed by Mauricio Cruz Fortunato (Manes, Café con aroma de mujer, 2020), with Juan Pablo Posada and Yalile Giordanelli (Ana de Nadie, Hasta que la Plata nos Separe 2022) as the executive producers; Ana María Orozco and Jorge Enrique Abello as associated producers and the supervision of production by Andrés Posada and Ana María Londoño.
“We feel very proud, not only because it will be in one of the most important scenarios in the world, but also because this bet is the evolution of the most successful telenovela in Latin America for distribution and a digital market,” said Alexander Marín, VP of Distribution RCN.
The cast also includes actors who made part of the original cast such as Natalia Ramírez, Mario Duarte, Jorge Herrera, Lorna Cepeda, Julián Arango, Luis Mesa, and Julio César Herrera, among others, will participate in the cast. In addition, Juanita Molina (Romina Poderosa) will be playing the role of Mila, Betty’s daughter, and Armando.
It’s worth recalling that the original series is available on Prime Video currently, which is among the most viewed productions.
