One of the projects that the extreme sports signal PX Sports is currently working on is the World Skate Tour, the stop on the world skateboarding tour, a sport now considered part of the Olympic Games.
“Each tour stop adds a huge audience, and in each are selected those going to the 2024 Olympics in France. We broadcast the third stop in Switzerland (9 to 16 September), in Lausanne, and then we will go to Rome in October,” said Óscar Mercado, Director of Operations at PX Sports.
He added they are trying to bring another world tour stop to Monterey, Mexico, in early 2024.
He ensures they co-produce all their productions with the rights for the US Spanish-speaking market.
He added that, under the partnership and co-production agreement signed with Mediapro in January, they are making the show El Play Room (60′). It is a weekly show covering three concepts: gamer, which is the entire esports trend – one of the characters is a professional gamer called “El Cabra” -, music with Daniela Casábola, professional DJ and sports commentator; and Annie Portocarreño will be developing the sports theme.
“The show develops as roommates in an apartment talking about video games, urban themes, rap, freestyle, and graffiti, with sports guests. “El Cabra” plays the gossiping neighbor,” explained Mercado.
The Play Room is produced at Mediapro México, in the same forums where FOX Deportes is recorded.
They are also co-producing another project with Mediapro about Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) LUX fights, which are broadcast live. “Mediapro manages two billboards: one that goes to ESPN and another that we share with Televisa and its Adrenalina channel. These fights are UFC Fight Pass, meaning that the winners qualify for the UFC in the USA,” said Mercado.
Mercado recalled that PX Sports is in the Hispanic packages of Dish’s Sling and AT&T/DIRECTV’s Uverse. Furthermore, the signal recently became available on Intercable in Venezuela, and they resumed talks with Comcast in the US through its representative in that market, NBCUniversal International Networks.
PX Sports also has a commercial agreement with RC Celta de Vigo, a Spanish first-division soccer team. PX Sports recently broadcast exclusively for the Hispanic US and Latin America the game between the soccer legends and RC Celta de Vigo commemorating their centenary. “They gave us that match exclusively for Latin America, although it is not an extreme sport, since we have that society and it is the team centenary, we broadcast the match live,” Mercado said.
He noted that the image of PX Sports is in the RC Celta de Vigo stadium as part of this commercial agreement. “We have a very strong alliance with them.”
