Netflix announced in the city of Bogota that it will continue to invest in Colombia with six original, new and diverse productions. Distrito Salvaje, Siempre Bruja, Frontera Verde, Historia de un Crimen: Colmenares and two comedy specials.
“Expanding our content to different genres allows us to diversify the offer and provide more options to our members through our platform, which transcends borders and continues to evolve. We are very excited to continue investing in the country and exposing their culture” said Reed Hastings, CEO of Netflix.
The new shows are in addition to the more than 70 original productions that have been filmed in Latin America, multiplying by five when compared to the moment the production began in the region in 2015. Also, they announce the premiere of Nicky Jam: The winner for November 30 (except in the USA).
Hastings said that the algorithms used by Netflix do not seek to collect data for advertising, but aim to make customers happier, finding related content, depending on the profiles of each consumer. They do not look for quantity but quality in their productions; an example of it is the film Roma, that will be launched in December simultaneously with Netflix and the cinemas.
He finally explained that they are looking to reach more people, either through prepaid cards or by partnering with pay TV providers to be included in the offer. “We have been talking with Comcast in the US, Sky in the UK, Telefónica in Latin America and Spain to reach more users.”
