Rodrigo Mazon, EVP, GM of ViX+, said that the subscription video on demand (SVOD) platform will offer access to more than 10,000 hours of content in its first year alone. “Much more and the best content in Spanish than any platform streaming offers,” he said, after commenting that in 2022 more than 50 ViX+ Original series and movies will be released, one each week. The launch of the platform is scheduled for the second half of 2022.
Mazón told PRODU that fortunately, due to the amount of resources being invested and the vision they have, “it is a luxury not to have to choose what will be and what will not.” This thanks to the extensive catalog and IPs of Televisa, which they are currently exploring, discovering iconic properties to reinvent and reimagine, “but we are also working with the entire creative community in the Spanish-speaking world and in that sense, the productions come from Spain to Argentina, Colombia, Chile, Peru, Mexico and the US Latino market. It is about offering a diversity compared with the community of 600 million Spanish-speakers,” he said.
They will be giving producers absolute creative freedom, with enough resources to raise the quality of production in Spanish.
They will have all kinds of genres and will not be limited to just one. “Obviously melodrama is a genre that is part of our history and we want to continue innovating, playing and being leaders there. But from there we will go to drama, action, fantasy, horror, romantic comedy, black comedies, family content, young adult. What we want to be is best in class Spanish-language content. It’s about the best stories coming from the established and famous creators – Salma Hayek – and also finding those new young creators,” he said.
Mazón announced the alliance with Salma Hayek’s Ventanarosa Productions for a two-year first-look deal to produce exclusive films in Spanish. Exclusive preferential access agreements had already been announced with 3Pas Studios of Eugenio Derbez and Ben Odell, María Dueñas, Selena Gómez, Mario Vargas Llosa, Santiago Limón and Ben Silverman of Propagate. In addition, he announced that they will work with Lemon Studios, Campanario, Mucho Mas Media, Exile Content Studio, Perro Azul, among others.
An agreement with Videocine will allow them to release films on the platform, as well as offer films on demand. They also have agreements with MarVista Entertainment and Film Factory. “ViX+ will be the place for Hispanic movie fans,” he said.
Soccer will distinguish them from other subscription platforms, which they assure will be a higher level in the coverage of the best championships and leagues in the world, with more than 3,000 live matches per year, more than 6,000 hours of live soccer in the US and Mexico together. In the US, they will offer four teams from Liga MX, in addition to other leagues such as CONMEBOL, Brasilerao, and others from Central and South America. “It will also be the home of all the Champions League matches. In Mexico it will be the home of Mexican soccer, with more access to Liga MX matches that you can see, as well as all the matches of the Mexican national team, and the biggest sports events highlighting Mexican athletes, including the FIFA World Cup of 2022” said Mazón. The coverage of this Cup will be between ViX (30 live matches) and ViX+ (10 live matches exclusive to this platform).
