Ten years ago, Rose Marie Vega, who created RMVISTAR as an independent distribution boutique, decided to venture into production with original, strong, and compelling stories. She made this announcement at #PRODUprimetime with Ríchard Izarra.
LATINX
“I am taking the title of LatinX’ because I am a Latinx executive producer that offers Latin, European and American talent, with stories that are compelling, that are strong, that are original. I am excited about this new stage because it is something new for the company. It is something very natural. Coming from Administration, Business Affairs, International Sales and now Development, it is natural to take that new step. I have been 100% involved and at the moment I am looking for the person, the team, the producer that is going to help me bring my next 8 to 10 episodes series to a Studio,” she said.
WITH A MAJOR STUDIO
“I can’t anticipate anything, but I am with a major studio for my next series and my first role as executive producer. I have been in the writing room since the beginning and I hope to announce the next step very soon, but yes, we are in development with Studios and we have several projects in process that I have a lot of faith in,” she added.
MEXICO, USA, AND SPAIN
“It is time to talk with producers in Mexico, the US, and Spain to see how we can work together and put these new products on the air. That’s what I’m doing. That is my focus at the moment: launching these new productions and looking for partners who will continue to grow with me. It is fascinating and I am very excited. I love it! ” she expressed.
UNIQUE EYE
Ríchard introduced Rose Marie like this: “Today I have the pleasure of being with one of the most experienced executive negotiators in our industry, with a unique eye for choosing content that works internationally, and with an immense talent to close the sale. She has worked with the most important studios and has sold the most successful titles ever made to the entire world. She is Rose Marie Vega from Los Angeles.”
NEGOTIATOR
Dallas, Falcon Crest, Knots Landing Perfect Strangers, Murder She Wrote, Colombo, Law & Order, Will & Grace, Providence, CSI, Las Vegas, CSI, Miami, CSI, New York, True Blood, are some of the titles in which she has been involved since she started at Lorimar (“the largest independent studio of its time”) in the 1980s as an Administrative Assistant, negotiating talent contracts and similar. Even recently, with her own company, selling to studios such as Universal, NBC, Alliance Atlantis, HBO The Cleaning Lady and Isabel, titles that she helped to place in the US, the first in FOX and the second in HBO Max. “The skill in negotiating comes from Lorimar, of Administration, and from Universal, doing the negotiations myself as with Law & Order. There I understood what a contract needs.”
100% EXECUTIVE PRODUCER
“The pandemic gave me the time 18 months- to involve 100% in development. I am devoted to being an executive producer and continuing to work in both areas, distribution, which has been bread and butter, and development, in search of that Latin American talent that I want to promote throughout the world, such as Leticia Tonos and Julietta Rodríguez, who are Dominican talents. Leticia has been an Oscar nominee and Julietta is a hugely talented producer who I am very proud to promote. These types of women have products with a universal voice, which is what I always look for, and touch my heart.” Here she refers to the Dominican mystery film, Jupía, made by Tonos and Rodriguez and for which she secured worldwide distribution rights.
WHAT IS COMING IS TOP
“The pandemic helped me to grow because we have developed a lot of new projects, working hand in hand on excellent projects in Spain, Germany, the United States, New York, California. What is coming gives me new energy, gives me new hope and I love it. It is part of what one has to do. You have to understand the changes, adapt and move on because there is no way to stop, nor where, and that is what my team and my programming is showing because what is coming is top.”
PREPARING TRAVEL
When asked if she thinks face-to-face markets will return, she replied: “I think so. I already made plans for Cancun, for Mipcom, because these are markets that have helped me. I believe that personal relationships can never be replaced and I believe that these markets are necessary for our industry. They fascinate me, I need to be in contact with my friends in the industry and see them in person. I will travel at the end of the year to be there and show RMVISTAR developments, which are universal for networks and channels around the world. I’m still open to working with my colleagues like I did with MGE on the Isabel theme for HBO Max, which is an excellent product and we did it hand in hand. I am very happy with that collaboration.”
