During the launch of Cine Sony Television on Comcast’s Xfinity Latino grid, Rubén Mendiola, VP and general manager of Multicultural Services of Comcast, told PRODU that the change the company has experienced in the past two years has been radical.“In December of last year we launched 10 channels, including Xfinity Latino Entertainment Channel, which has been revolutionary and a true success for us. In mid-2013 we launched Freeview Xfinity Latino: the largest event in U.S. Hispanic history, where we offered over 1,000 hours of open programming for all Xfinity subscribers, with 2,500 new shows. It was extremely well received by the audience,” said Mendiola. He is optimistic about the future and announced the Xfinity Latino services will re-launch in the first quarter of 2014. “We will work hard on the World Cup, a very important event for our subscribers. Additionally, we’ll have several new channels and we’re doing more innovative things,” added Mendiola.Superna Kalle, SVP and General Manager of Networks and of Sony Movie Channel, Cine Sony Television and geTV, said that this channel –first launched on the Verizon FiOS platform in August of 2012- plans to introduce original series, but it wants to first observe how its audience responds to movies, music and the distribution partnerships it currently features.
