Screenwriter Marisa Grinstein: Mujeres Asesinas 2 is the same format, but now in an industry with greater openness

In its second installment, Mujeres Asesinas will feature impactful stories, continuing the successful legacy of previous seasons

ViX premiered the second season of the series Mujeres Asesinas on Friday, March 15th, created by Marisa Grinstein. Grinstein stated that, unlike the previous seasons, there was greater freedom regarding language and portrayal of the human body. However, one of her major reflections upon completing the production was realizing that the spiral of violence does not end. Meanwhile, Vincenzo Gratteri, SVP of Development at ViX, discussed the resources that a streaming platform provides for creating more powerful content.

Grinstein affirmed that Mujeres Asesinas 2 arrives on ViX at a stage of openness in content creation, as well as the themes addressed: “There is unquestionably an openness. I remember from the early episodes not only in Argentina but also the adaptations for other countries where we couldn’t show certain body parts or say bad words; we had to make very odd modifications, and now it’s completely free in that sense.” She recalled working with the ViX team, whom she considered very professional in portraying each of the stories, which have great rawness, “going beyond the previous installments. It’s a project that can only be achieved when you work as a group.”

A SERIES WITH HIGH PRODUCTION VALUES OFFERED BY STREAMING
On the other hand, Gratteri stated that, unlike the first seasons, the main difference with the new installment is that “being on a streaming platform like ViX gives us an editorial freedom that was unthinkable when the format was on broadcast TV.” Additionally, it is very organic with the type of stories being told. This, combined with higher production values and more generous budgets managed in streaming versus broadcast TV, constitutes the second point. And as a third point, the industry is mature. In Latin America, we have reached an international level of professionalism. Being on this platform allowed us to increase the artistic and emotional potential of the franchise.”

Regarding the importance of technology in a project like this, Gratteri highlighted its significant role: “Firstly, we were able to count on very strong talents behind the scenes, but today’s technology allows us to materialize the directors’ vision with a power that was previously inconceivable, both in terms of budgets and tools. Here we leaped quality, even compared to the first season we had on ViX, but there is constant learning in staging, photography, sound design, and soundtrack.”

Finally, Marisa shared that at the end of this season, she was left with sadness and anger, “about why these women end up like this. Because they are not heroines, we are not saying that killing is okay, but we show the horror that leads them to prison for years. I wondered why this continues to happen and why this spiral of violence, of abandonment, cannot be stopped.”

In its second installment, it will feature impactful stories, continuing the successful legacy of previous seasons. The new episodes will feature women from completely different backgrounds but with a similarity: they were pushed to make the worst decision of their lives, to kill. Life experiences such as domestic violence, humiliation, and manipulation are part of their stories. The episodes will be starred by Carolina Miranda, África Zavala, Litzy, Tessa Ia, Carolina Ramírez, Sofía Espinosa, Elyfer Torres, and Ariana Saavedra.
