Bio series are Sony Pictures Television´s (SPT) main bet regarding original productions in the region, according to what Angélica Guerra, senior VP and managing director, Production LatAm and US Hispanic at SPT told PRODU.“We are seeing in Mexico and the US the same process that Colombia went through about five years ago. And since that moment, almost 15 bios have been produced. We started to see this trend strongly in Mexico and US Hispanic. More than half of our content in 2016 is going to be bio series. They will be real-life stories based on true characters and whose main markets will be Mexico and the US. We see this trend coming strongly and think it will continue the next few years, so we are betting on everything for this year and the following”, expressed Guerra. He stated that the most recent project in the genre of bio series is Blue demon (65×60’) which they are making as part of the co-production agreement with Televisa. “Blue Demon is a fantastic series that we want to set around the 1940s and 1950s, completely shot in Mexico, in outdoor locations. We want to show the Mexican, Latin American, and global audience a fantastic character that managed to transcend, who arose out of nothing and ended up turning into a wrestling icon, he overcame a thousand obstacles and ended up triumphant and having become a legend”, he explained.
