The distribution company Spanglish Movies, founded in 2017 by Gustavo Rodríguez-Aparicio, an executive with 25 years in the distribution industry and former FOX, specializes in original films for the US Hispanic market.
“We are distributors who are involved in all possible steps, from the creation to the commercialization of content, in order for producers to achieve the best commercial agreements and the platforms the content they need to add subscribers, reduce the churn rate and increase the value of their companies,” explained Rodríguez.
They generate quality content in a cost-efficient way, particularly in the Caribbean, Miami, and New York. “There are very few of us making products for the Hispanic market with tax credits from Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic,” he said.
Rodríguez emphasizes that his track record in “commercially viable” premieres in US cinemas, not only provides a unique window to future releases in the Hispanic market, but also a tool to generate subscribers in SVOD in a cost-efficient way, simultaneously building loyalty to the brand.”
With a portfolio of more than 150 films, Spanglish Movies added in 2020 the needs of customers to the distribution experience to its network of creators, to generate original content.
“Our role is to facilitate the creation of content tailored to the needs of each platform and the capabilities of each artist, adding value with financing, tax credit structures, screenwriters, directors, talents, and marketing campaign designers,” he said.
He stressed that the backbone continues to be feature films for cinema and a second window for streaming platforms.
Among his clients, he mentioned Hemisphere Media Group and its streamer Pantaya; SOMOS Group, Netflix, and HBO.
