Mark Lazarus, Chairman of NBCUniversal Television & Streaming, highlighted the importance of Telemundo for the company during his participation in the opening panel at Natpe Virtual Miami, The big opening: Vision of Television 2021.
“Telemundo is a competitive advantage for the company. We are the only large media company that has invested in both languages. It is a great part of Peacock, with Peacock Latino the 200%ers (demo that is fluent in English and Spanish)” said Lazarus in his conversation with Hoda Kotb, presenter of NBC’s Today.
Lazarus mentioned the restructuring undertaken by the group. “We are preparing for the future. The new structure allows us to explore all our businesses comprehensively, more creatively, and strategically. It is a strategy based on content. It is a great benefit, both for the creative community and for us,” he highlighted.
He clarified that this does not mean that the destinies and brands are not important. “Our original studio or TV shows, for example, are the things that most attract Peacock people,” he highlighted and stressed that people have liked the new stage or an original show of Saved by the Bell for the platform very much and it has connected the audience with previous seasons of the original show.
He mentioned that with Peacock they exceeded expectations since they already have 26 million subscribers and recently extended an agreement they have with Charter to launch Peacock Premium. “We are thrilled with the growth forecast,” added Lazarus.
