Telemundo announced the full cast of La Reina Del Sur, the much-anticipated return of the network’s most successful series in its history. International film and television star Kate del Castillo will reprise her iconic role as Teresa Mendoza in this continuation of the groundbreaking serial drama.

Del Castillo anchors an internationally renowned, multi-lingual cast that includes Italian lead actor, Raoul Bova (Under the Tuscan Sun, All the Roads Lead to Rome, Ferzan Ozpetek’s Facing Windows, Alien vs. Predator), Humberto Zurita (La Querida del Centauro, La Reina del Sur) Paola Nuñez (The Son, Reina de Corazones), Antonio Gil (The Man who Killed Don Quixote, Risen), Patricia Reyes Spíndola (Fear of the Walking Dead, Frida), Mark Tacher (La Hija del Mariachi), Kika Edgar (Amor Real), Flavio Medina (El Recluso), Eduardo Santamarina (El Señor de los Cielos), and Eric Roberts (Head Full of Honey, The Dark Knight) as well as members of the original series cast.

“The return of Kate del Castillo and La Reina del Sur to Telemundo is absolutely an event. In the nine years since its debut, the impact of this hard-hitting drama is still being felt today. Kate’s star has risen even higher since the series’ debut and having her back on board in her most iconic role is just the beginning. We are confident that its combination of international talent, an emotionally compelling and action-packed narrative, and the heightened production values of this global production all add up to a must-see entertainment experience for all audiences,” said Marcos Santana, president of Telemundo Global Studios.

Shot on location in seven countries, the return of La Reina del Sur is set eight years since powerful drug trafficker Teresa Mendoza disappeared into the U.S. Federal Witness Protection Program after bringing down Mexican presidential candidate Epifanio Vargas. Hers is now a life of total anonymity in Italy as María Dantes, peacefully raising her daughter Sofía in the Tuscan village of Massa Marittima. However, her life takes an unexpected turn and she will do the impossible to reclaim her throne as La Reina del Sur.
