Telemundo International Studios (TIS) has 20 projects in development with Underground in multiple genres, ranging from scripted, documentaries, to movies. “We have a hyperactive year. TIS and Underground are breaking their own record in development,” commented enthusiastically Juan Ponce, SVP, Production, and Strategy Operations at Telemundo Global Studios.
The projects include El Marginal, seasons 4 and 5 for Netflix “which, albeit not being a new IP, have traveled very well globally,” he explained. They also have El Diario de un Gigoló, which is a co-production, “a series with all the Underground seal: super deep characters, with many dimensions and high production standards. They will produce in Argentina, with talent from that country, along with US Hispanic and Mexican ones. It is a production we are very excited about”. Armas de Mujer for Peacock also comes with TIS and El Recluso 2.
“We have one of the healthiest and strongest development pipelines we have had in the history of Telemundo. I think it is a great moment when platforms are looking for more content and we have the most influential development team in Latin America,” he furthered.
He mentioned that in English they have latent opportunities they are thrilled about, “not only for US Hispanic but for the general market,” he ended.
