ViX presented the bioseries Ellas soy yo, Gloria Trevi, based on the life of the Mexican singer, which premiered on Friday the 11th. The producer, Carla Estrada, said that the project intends to make visible violence against women through someone who experienced it.
“This project marks a turning point for all of us since it led us to reflect and, in some cases, to change how we think. The series allows us to see a person who went through violence and was able to come out ahead. It is a story of resilience, where we can see people in problems, become aware and seek support. It is a unique opportunity to tell this story and to help many women and men,” said Estrada.
For Estrada, this project was a great challenge because it meant representing a figure of the stature of Gloria Trevi in the artistic industry. She created a microsite with names and information of different institutions and civil associations that support women or people who suffer violence.
“Together, we can face this reality of abuse and violence in Mexico and the world, where what used to be normal is now unacceptable. We seek to be a bridge between those who need guidance or accompaniment, so we are offering information about institutions and associations in each of the 50 episodes through the microsite ellassoyyo.com/orientación,” she added.
To complete the project, it took three years of research, interviews, and testimonials from more than 70 people, highlighting the experiences told there to the people who lived next to the singer. The recording included more than 280 locations in countries such as Chile, Argentina, Brazil, the US, and Mexico, with more than 500 actors on stage, resulting in 40,000 hours of content in nine months.
The writer of the series, Eric Vonn, highlighted the script process. “This is the most elaborate project I have ever done in all my years as a scriptwriter. It took us more than three years; we had to make a chronology based on Carla’s research and interviews; we had to read a lot of press material, watch videos and research things online.”
The original production, which stars Scarlet Gruber, Ingrid Martz, Lessy Hernández, Regina Villaverde, and Jorge Poza, premiered exclusively on the service’s premium plan on ViX. The first five episodes became available on the day of the premiere, and new chapters will be released every week until completing the 50 episodes that make up the series.
The series features the story of Gloria de los Ángeles Treviño Ruiz, a fifteen-year-old girl who travels from Monterrey to Mexico City to participate in a television contest looking for the doppelganger of a famous young actress. Gloria wishes to become a music star, and in attempting this, a man twice her age will become her mentor and then her predator. For 17 years, he will lead her through a terrifying journey in which, after achieving success and fame, Gloria will lose everything and make a great exercise of resilience to survive and rebuild her life and her career.
