Producer Pedro Ortiz de Pinedo has unveiled the new version of La CQ Nuevo Ingreso, which premieres this December 9 at 7PM on Channel 5 of TelevisaUnivision. All episodes are also available on the ViX platform. This revamped youth sitcom aims to capture a new generation of viewers while preserving the essence that defined it 12 years ago when it was first created in partnership with Cartoon Network Latin America.
“For me, it’s very important to bring back quality youth content in Spanish for Latin America. When we launched the original version of La CQ Nuevo Ingreso 12 years ago, we held a press conference attended by only four media outlets. Now, the landscape is different, and we’re thrilled to bring this content to a new generation,” said the producer.
The new version retains its high school setting but features eight entirely new characters. On this, Ortiz de Pinedo explained: “Viewers won’t necessarily find direct references to the previous version. However, some of the original cast will eventually appear as guests. The priority was to renew ourselves while preserving the essence that made La CQ special.”
NEW CHARACTERS
This version comprises 20 initial episodes, which will be broadcast on free-to-air TV and made available on digital platforms. “The advantage of this project is its multiplatform nature. The first episodes are already available for streaming, allowing viewers to watch them repeatedly. It’s content designed to be enjoyed across different formats and devices,” he explained.
On the evolution of youth audiences over the past 12 years, he noted: “New generations are very demanding with content. They want everything to be fast and direct, and this version meets those demands while keeping the connection that resonates with audiences.”
The characters making up La CQ‘s student group are:
– Sofi (Tania Nicole), is a cheerful cheerleader who lacks self-confidence.
– Quique (Nicolás Pindas), a dreamy actor with stage fright.
– Choche (Nico Villagrana), is a compulsive liar who imagines himself as a millionaire.
– Mini (José María Nieto), is an allergy-prone boy who fancies himself a ladies’ man despite being ignored by girls.
– Frida (Sammy Choulund), the sarcastic younger sister of Monche.
– Nancy (Abril), a girl obsessed with Alan.
– Alan (Leo Pérez Torreblanca), is the arrogant soccer captain who is admired, feared, and desired in equal measure.
– Jackie (Mayte Fernández), Alan’s clueless sister, who uses “grandma” phrases.
The cast also includes Luis Fernando Ceballos (Roque), Juan Frese (Principal), Claudio Herrera (Godofredo), Mercedes Vaughan (Clodomira), Lorena Bargalló (Karla Arozamena), Leticia Amezcua (Bambalina), Melissa Hallivis (Rupertina), Emiliano Santa Cruz (Moroco Topacio), José Dammert (Humberto), and Lorena Bargalló (Karla).
