Ellas Soy Yo, Gloria Trevi premiered on Monday 4 at 9:30 p.m. on Las Estrellas, owned by TelevisaUnivision, a new production by Carla Estrada. It is a bioseries based on the life of this Mexican singer to give visibility to violence against women through this story and via a specially designed website. The series is also available through the ViX platform.
“It took us nine months to record, four of pre-production, and now we are in post-production. It is a project that entailed three years of research, interviews including many testimonials, and a casting of more than 10,000 people that fortunately gave us the Glorias we needed to perform the role of a popular icon such as Gloria Trevi,” highlighted the producer.
Estrada recalled that the idea of producing the series arose many years ago when Trevi expressed her interest in producing the project if it ever came to fruition. “After talking with my writers, we found the formula of generating a conversation with the public and giving a message using the voice of these girls telling what they had lived during several years and endured.”
She said the series arrived on TV at the right moment because adults and young people are more open-minded. “It comes at the right time to trigger the conversation, and in turn, this creates awareness. In Mexico, we are eager to have knowledge and help people.”
As a traditional TV producer, it was a double challenge for Estrada to design a product that would also be on streaming. “It is the first time we do something like this, where both platforms are combined to view content. We hope to have on open TV the same response as in ViX, where we did not have a fixed time for each episode, allowing us to show all the material we had. Now, on Las Estrellas, we have to edit it to 44 minutes, but we are doing everything to achieve it.”
She said it is not only the violence against women displayed in the series but a follow-up online with the Ellas Soy Yo orientation microsite. “Here, you can find support in a process that, after watching the series, will catch your attention and make you a better person.”
