Rosy Ocampo, commissioned to produce Papás for TelevisaUnivision: We'll weave in relevant topics in a way that's both informative and entertaining, ensuring the telenovela remains enjoyable for the audience

Taking a break from the Vencer franchise, producer Rosy Ocampo ventures into a new original telenovela, Papás por Conveniencia.  Building on her signature approach, Ocampo utilizes in-depth research to explore contemporary themes. This time, the spotlight shines on the evolving landscape of families and the sensitive topic of adolescent sexual health.

“As a producer dedicated to original telenovelas with themes that resonate with modern audiences, I felt it was important to explore the evolving dynamics of families,” explained Ocampo.  “Today’s families come in all shapes and sizes, from single mothers and couples without children to same-sex couples. Our story will delve into these realities, along with two other key elements: nostalgia and music.”

Producer Rosy Ocampo infuses the telenovela with a touch of nostalgia. Ocampo, who spearheaded Televisa’s successful run of children’s telenovelas between 1998 and 2006, brings back beloved characters for Papás por Conveniencia. Fans will be delighted to see Daniela Luján and Martín Rica from El Diario de Daniela alongside María Chacón and Miguel Martínez from Alegrijes y Rebujos, along with other guest stars. “The goal,” Ocampo explains, “is to rekindle the emotional connection of viewers who grew up with these stories. We’ll do this through familiar characters, musical themes, plot threads, anecdotes, and situations they’ll recognize.”

Producer Rosy Ocampo also highlights music as a key element of the telenovela. She collaborates with producer Alejandro Abaroa, who has created remixes of iconic songs to soundtrack pivotal moments in the plot. Additionally, actor José Ron, who plays the protagonist, will be joined by his musical group Koktel to perform original songs. “We’re creating an emotional connection that resonates with these generations.”

A TELENOVELA WITH A PURPOSE
Ocampo’s production company is committed to tackling important social issues through our projects. For Papás por Conveniencia, they’re partnering with the Population Media Center, a respected non-profit dedicated to promoting content about adolescent sexual health. “We’ll weave in relevant topics in a way that’s both informative and entertaining, ensuring the telenovela remains enjoyable for the audience.”

Ocampo is known for her meticulous research-driven approach to telenovela production, a method she’ll detail in her forthcoming book.  “For Papás por Conveniencia, this involved in-depth research on adolescent sexuality in Mexico, including data on sexual harassment and resources for improving sexual health.” She emphasizes the importance of referencing credible institutions that can provide viewers with accurate information and support.

Papás por Conveniencia kicks off in Mexico City, Puebla, and Morelos, with a production schedule of approximately five and a half months. She noted that it is basically an urban telenovela. The series will unfold over 82.5 episodes, with more than half already written. The premiere is set for October 21st at 8:30 pm on Las Estrellas, while the Univisión broadcast schedule is still to be determined.
