Since the inauguration of Grup Mediapro’s virtual set in Miami in mid-2023, it has been used for 17 major productions, including commercials, music videos, and events.
The latest major production was the shooting of the new music video by Gente de Zona, in which the popular Cuban duo performs a ‘collaboration’ with singer Celia Cruz. The technology equipped on the set has made it possible to carry out this immersive video in which the group shares the stage with the late Cuban artist.
Mediapro North America’s virtual set in Miami is the largest in South Florida and features a 24-meter wide, seven-meter tall LED screen with more than 780 panels.
The facilities are equipped with Unreal Engine technology, a 3D creation tool that synchronously combines the real environment with digitally created elements. This recording system allows for the exploration of new audiovisual frontiers as it offers infinite customization possibilities and generates immersive environments for all types of shootings.
Simply by changing the digital set, the studio has recreated the streets of Panama for the music video of Farruko’s latest song (Perdóname), revived the image of Celia Cruz, and created different scenarios for productions by Concacaf or Cinema Giants, among other clients.
These facilities are part of a major strategic plan that Grup Mediapro has launched to equip its main production centers with this technology.
In addition to Miami, the group has virtual sets in Barcelona and Portugal and plans to inaugurate facilities in Buenos Aires and New York (1,500m2 north of Manhattan). The large-scale studios combine LED and chroma technology to shoot each production with the most appropriate technology.
This technology facilitates creative work as an infinite number of scenarios can be recreated in the same space, offering an infinite range of customizations. This recording system also makes production work easier since, by concentrating the shooting in one place, the movement of teams and technical material is avoided; this represents a reduction of CO2 emissions between 76 and 80% compared to conventional shooting.
