The TV Azteca is in the process of filming Lo Que Callamos las Mujeres and decided to give a cinematographic touch to the new season of the episodic series using 4K cameras and film optics; plus color correction with a darker contrast.
“We are recording with the best technology, which is used in the original content of all platforms. We managed to include effects and imprint different color temperatures, reaching the level of international production. This season looks very fresh and competes in quality with any series, ideal for any platform. TVAzteca is betting that this product is equal to or better than the offer of other countries since with the growing demand, we cannot stay behind,” said Ernesto García, director of Photography.
Regarding the technology changes in production, García mentioned that they are recording with Sony FX6 cameras in 4K. “One of the best on the market, compact and light, so it can be used for specific shots such as cars. Image-wise, what we’re doing is having a bit of contrast, we’re using negatives; we turned off some lights in the forum to give it a more cinematic touch. It is a radical change because it is filmed like a cinema since we’re using independent cameras which was not done before.”
Armando Urueta, camera director, commented on the preparation process in light of the technology changes: “To get to a scene, we prepare with the actors, first I choose the optics and the framing, after that we make dynamics and we work along the way. Technology has come a long way, but above all, it is the format. What we do is with two cameras with film-type shots.”
“The new digital cameras are amazing, we can see even the color correction on the monitor, with almost 80 percent of the final work. Before this could only be seen in cinema, now with Sony cameras we use two fixed optics, with two 35/70 zooms and one 60/135; We have a whole range with which we work perfectly. For interiors it is easier to work with medium formats, for exteriors it is more complex, it all depends on the content,” he concluded.
