Ultra Clásico features a posthumous homage to Mexican film director, screenwriter and producer Mauricio Walerstein, one of the most iconic figures in Venezuelan cinema.The well-deserved homage to the masterful work of Mauricio Walerstein will take place on August 19, 2016 starting at 9pm EST/6pm PST. The tribute comprises of a high caliber lineup of four of his most iconic films that have been remastered and restored by Olympusat.Walerstein passed away from cancer in early July at the age of 71 in Mexico City, leaving behind a vast legacy in Venezuela, the country he called home for over 30 years. During the 70s and 80s, the groundbreaking filmmaker dared to address unusual and controversial topics such as homosexuality and the government’s oppression, becoming one of the protagonist of the Golden Age of Venezuelan cinema.”Undoubtedly, he was an outstanding filmmaker, a key figure to Venezuelan cinema. He dared to explore social and political issues, and portrayed the reality of Venezuela during the 70s and 80s. Walersteins work as a director, producer and screenwriter, and is responsible for over twenty films. To celebrate with lifework, Ultra Clásico will showcase some of his most notorious movies. The six titles that fans will be able to enjoy are: Macho y Hembra (1984), Con el Corazón en la Mano (1988), Móvil Pasional (1993), and Juegos Bajo la Luna (2000).
