ViacomCBS Global Distribution Group announced today that it has licensed the event series The stand in more than 100 markets worldwide including Latin America.
The nine-episode limited event series is based on Stephen King’s best-selling novel. The production has been licensed to major platforms in key markets around the world including Starzplay, and other platforms and markets.
The series is King’s apocalyptic vision of a world decimated by plague and embroiled in an elemental struggle between good and evil. The fate of mankind rests on the frail shoulders of the 108-year-old Mother Abagail (Whoopi Goldberg) and a handful of survivors. The stand will close with a new coda written by the famed author himself.
Benjamin Cavell serves as showrunner and executive producer alongside Taylor Elmore, Will Weiske, Jimmy Miller, Roy Lee and Richard P. Rubinstein. Josh Boone serves as director and an executive producer for the series premiere and final episode. Jake Braver, Jill Killington, Owen King, Knate Lee and Stephen Welke serve as producers.
“We are excited to bring this new much-anticipated limited series to audiences around the globe,” mentioned Dan Cohen, President, ViacomCBS Global Distribution Group. “The exceptional creative team behind The stand and the incredibly talented cast have created the latest high-quality premium content for which ViacomCBS is known.” The series is produced by CBS Studios and will be available on CBS All Access in the United States beginning on December, 17.
