Virtual Production XR Lab Studio is a project that will revolutionize the audiovisual industry in Mexico. It was born from an alliance between the Mexican companies Ledec Technology, iDigital Creative Studio, and Borderless Content Academy to create a new entity that will lead the research and development of the necessary workflow for creating virtual production laboratory studies. This project will range from designing and manufacturing proprietary hardware with high-quality, globally competitive LED displays to developing the next-generation software.
The Virtual Production XR Lab Studio launching took place at a cocktail party organized in Mexico City with the attendance of clients, press, and industry representatives. The new company will mark a milestone in the virtual production industry using cutting-edge technology. This strategic alliance aims to revolutionize the world of audiovisual production, fusing cutting-edge hardware, innovative software, and advanced virtualization and artificial intelligence techniques to create world-class virtual production studios.
This technology became widely known for its use in productions such as Mandalorian (Disney), Avengers Endgame (Marvel), The Batman (WB), 1899 (Netflix), and many of the new high-profile productions in Hollywood.
According to the Olsberg SPI study, Mexico is an attractive pole to the industry due to the quality of specialized talent, unique locations, competitive costs, and infrastructure. International investment in audiovisual production in Mexico was 12,000 million pesos in 2022 (around US$700,000) and has increased substantially in 2023.
“We are excited to join forces and take virtual production to a whole new level. Our focus on innovation and collaboration with students will ensure that we are at the forefront of the industry,” said Gabriel Sebastián Reyes, spokesperson for the new company, who was joined by Liliana Cabello, Managing Partner, César Sánchez, director and founder of Ledec; and Mauricio García, operational director of Ledec.
“We have been in research and development for two years, manufacturing media servers, and developing software for XR. In addition, we will integrate all the necessary and specific services to make successful projects in virtual production and XR, now even with the integration of AI for different techniques. It is a historic moment that we are experiencing in production in the region, so it is worth highlighting the effort that three 100% Mexican companies are making to bring this production level to Mexico,” he noted.
Virtual production offers significant advantages in cost efficiency, creative flexibility, and control, making it an attractive option for various industries seeking to innovate in content creation and visual experiences. The Virtual Production Center will be located in the Polanco area of Mexico City, making it a world-class innovation center in the heart of the Mexican audiovisual industry.
INTENSIVE VIRTUAL PRODUCTION AND AI WORKSHOP
The new company will offer training and internship opportunities for students, offering the chance to work on pioneering projects and gain experience in cutting-edge technology. The workshop is theoretical-practical, working on a test production, allowing participants to simulate and learn about the advantages and benefits of their projects in each phase of the process with virtual production and artificial intelligence. In this way, they can understand first-hand the criteria for creating and evaluating the usefulness of this type of production, from its selection, development, and financing.
