TelevisaUnivision Inc. and Lemon Studios announced four original titles that will premiere exclusively on the new premium subscription service in Spanish ViX+, scheduled to launch in the second half of the year. The exclusive productions that Lemon Studios will develop for the platform include a movie, a reality show and two fiction series.
“We are proud to work with the recognized Mexican production house Lemon Studios to jointly develop the best Spanish-language content that captures our unique and assorted stories,” said Rodrigo Mazón, Executive VP and General Manager of ViX+. “Our mission is to highlight Hispanic storytelling and be an iconic brand of the Latino cultures, offering the creative community freedom and investment to shine in all genres.”
Among the first original titles that are already in production (since February) is a family horror about Tomás, an 11-year-old boy who is a fan of horror and fantasy literature and must figure out if his teacher is a children-eater monster about to attack their entire school. The film was written by Ricardo Avilés, directed by Jose Sierra and starring Ilse Salas, Mi Maestra se Comió a mi Amigo (My teacher ate my friend).
Following is La Loca de los Perros, a reality show for dog lovers, about the television host Érika Fernández who alternates her glamorous life with rescuing puppies. Recording starts on March 23.
Plus two original series that are in development under the provisional titles: Un Buen Divorcio (A good divorce), a dramedy about a couple of successful divorce lawyers who personify the saying that “the tailor’s wife is the worst clad “; and also No eres tú, son mis Daddy Issues (It’s not you, it’s my daddy issues), a dramedy about a 27-year-old woman screenwriter who, after the death of her mother, has to face the adult world alongside her father who she hasn’t seen since her childhood, and who finds herself searching what it means to be a “responsible adult”.
“In this era of high-end content, there was a need for a place focused on giving Latino creators a voice. ViX+ unites the two largest Spanish-language content forces in the world to answer this call. With its aggressive production plan in Spanish, Lemon Studios proudly joins the mission of helping our stories feed this platform for many years to come,” said Billy Rovzar, founding partner of Lemon Studios.
