TelevisaUnivision began recording its new telenovela Juana la Virgen, produced by W Studios, led by Patricio Wills, who highlighted that for years he sought to make this story written by Perla Farías and which debuted 20 years ago in Venezuela.
“I have been pursuing this project for some years now, and as fate would have it, the rights came to TelevisaUnivision. But it was not until Farías arrived at the company that they decided that W Studios would produce it. It will consist of over 60 episodes, making it a medium-sized telenovela. The recording will take place at the Gabriel García Márquez Studios, becoming the first that TelevisaUnivison has made in these facilities,” said Wills during the start kick-off of the shootings.
Starring Camila Valero, Brandon Peniche, Fabiola Guajardo, and Cynthia Klitbo, Juana la Virgen tells the story of Juana Bravo, a charming young woman who accidentally becomes pregnant through an artificial insemination process. Juana meets Gabriel Vega, a man with whom she has nothing in common, but fate brings them together. It will premiere in June 2024 on Las Estrellas.
A YEAR OF GREAT SUCCESS FOR W STUDIOS
Wills mentioned that 2023 was a good year for W Studios, despite all its complexity for the industry in general. “Many changes took place, mainly in the world of streaming, particularly when we saw a great increase in entertainment consumption and large companies losing money regardless of whether the public is consuming more. The market is reorganizing.”
But regardless of these considerations, Will said that for W Studios, it went very well because they carried out very successful projects. Among these, he highlighted El Gallo de Oro, which has been very well received, mainly among the US Hispanic public. He announced that a second season would be coming soon.
NEW PROJECT IN COLOMBIA WITH MANOLO CARDONA
Wills announced that for 2024, in addition to the premiere of Juana la Virgen, they are preparing new projects for ViX, including one in Colombia starring Manolo Cardona. To this will be added others that are for streaming and open TV.
