America’s Game, Wheel of Fortune celebrates the show’s international formats during the week of April 17th.
Wheel Around the World week showcases versions of the show produced in other countries through video segments featuring sets and hosts from five of those productions.
“Everyone at Wheel of Fortune thoroughly enjoys seeing our format adapted for other cultures and we thought our viewers would enjoy it too,” commented executive producer, Harry Friedman. “The response has been tremendous, so we’ve made Wheel Around the World week an annual event.”
This season, Wheel of Fortune worked with Spain’s La Ruleta De La Suerte, Slovakia’s Koleso Stastia, Germany’s Glucksrad, Netherlands’ Rad Van Fortuin and Romania’s Roata Norocului to secure video messages from the local hosts and the American viewing audience to their shows.
Each country’s version centers on a wheel, puzzleboard and puzzles in their own language, but from there each put their own cultural spin on the format.
“Wheel of Fortune licensees enjoy participating in Wheel Around the World as it brings them much deserved attention and introduces their show to the U.S audience,” said Paul Gilbert, senior VP, International Formats, CBS Studios International. “Additionally, the U.S contestants have the opportunity to win trips to the licensees’ countries.”
