OTTs for teams and leagues in Latin America was another topic discussed during the first edition of Sportv Series Latin America. The panel was comprised of Jorge Enrique Velez, president of DIMAYOR; Jaime Alberto Parada Rojas, president of Win Sports; Luis Baraldi, VP of Grupo Pachuca and Mauricio Lozano, CEO of Inmobly.
Baraldi highlighted that Grupo Pachuca has turned soccer into a huge business (they have the rights of the Pachuca, León, and Mineros from Mexico; Everton from Chile, and Talleres from Cordoba, Argentina).
For his part, Parada from Win Sports said the cannel depends on the rights of Colombian soccer for pay-TV and the OTT was created as a substitute for operators to reach the final consumer. One of the problems he sees is the low bankcarization in the market. He announced that they will launch a premium channel in January 2020. “I do think the OTT should be according to leagues,” he added.
Velez explained that DIMAYOR groups 36 Colombian soccer teams and has different business units. The international rights of the teams are handled by an investing group.
According to the panelists, OTTs of complete leagues will be more successful and make more sense than doing them with individual teams.
