alma, a modern culture marketing agency headquartered in Miami, announces today it has hired Christian Liu as its newest Executive Creative Director. Liu, who was previously serving as a Creative Director at mcgarrybowen in Chicago, is returning to alma for a second time, after joining the agency at the start of his career in 2005. Liu spent over seven years at alma, helping to shape some of the agency’s creative partnerships that are still in place today. Upon his initial departure from alma, Liu went on to work for global and general market agencies in New York and Chicago, including Y&R and Global Hue. Liu has worked with brands such as Marriott International, Kingsford, Disney and Brita, and his work has been recognized by top global industry awards including Cannes Lions, The One Show, London International Festival, The Clios, El Sol, FIAP, and El Ojo Iberoamérica. “I’m thrilled to welcome Christian and his incredible creative talent back home to alma,” says creative chairman and CEO, Luis Miguel Messianu. “His return is a testament to the strength of our agency culture, and we have no doubt that his experience will help to continue elevating our creative reputation as we work with our soulmates, current and new.” Liu’s hire comes on the heels of a record-breaking year in new business for the agency, with a total of 11 brands added to the roster in 2020. He’ll be joining forces with Executive Creative Director, Jorge Murillo, both of whom will report to Co-President and CCO, Alvar Sunol. Liu will be tasked with supporting the alma team on longtime client McDonald’s, as well as Tobacco Free Florida and Molson Coors.
