Mark Zuckerberg, founder of Facebook, spoke at a questions session about his predictions on the future of communications and social media. Among his main prophecies is the notion of telepathy through tech devices.I think one day we will be able to send elaborate thoughts to a person through technology”, he explained. “You will just have to think of something and your friends will immediately be able to feel it, if you wish. That will be the most advanced thing in communications technology”.It sounds like a science fiction idea, but according to Neil Ramsden, Commercial Director of the agency Lowe Profero, it is absolutely feasible. “In Viena there are already three people walking around with mind-controlled protheses. To have in a few years the ability to identify and transmit thoughts seems the logical development of technology”, said Ramsden. In view of this panorama, salespeople and advertisers will have to restate their role and their strategies. Ramsden pointed out that advertising that adapts to consumers´ moods already exists. While technology allow us to have more intuitive forms of expression, salespeople will have to find more subtle ways to send their messages”, explained Zuckerberg. “Advertisers will have to take a more passive role and it will be the communicator’s decision to advocate brands they are passionate about. This can lead to a revolution in the investment in media, which could shift from direct, immediate response to brand advertising”.
