Lilly: En la vida, cómo se pierde define el carácter
Todd Lilly, Digital Senior Producer at Dieste said goodbye to the agency with an article published in Provoke Weekly titled: The Wins That Come With Losing, in which he disserts on his failures and how these can seem losses, but actually aren’t. “Losing, what defines loss? In life, how you lose defines your character and, ultimately, how you win” said Lilly. The producer makes a recount of his many failures –an online business, his home, two marriages- and the loss of confidence in himself as a result. But he also speaks about the learning he obtained from his losses. Lilly shares an anecdote of when he was in high school and decided to write a letter to Truett Cathy, Founder at Chick-Fil-A, where they made his favorite sandwiches that are a memorable childhood experience for him. Two weeks later he received a book on Cathy’s autobiography titled: It’s Easier To Win Than Fail, with a personalized note. This taught him several things: that receiving an expression of gratitude is something that everyone deserves for their efforts; that people making above average efforts take pride and care in what they do; that thoughtfulness means you are listening and paying attention; and that purpose means that the fact that Cathy signed and sent him the book was more than he expected; and that it is necessary to take action and ask what you want, without fear of being rejected. He said that his time at Dieste reminds him of this experience, since at the agency people care, are thoughtful and that there he has been able to take on new challenges and trying new things. “When you act, you win something and you lose something. But you learn.”
