Yahoo shut down its video streaming service Yahoo Screen without prior notice. Digital video was one of CEO Marissa Mayer’s top priorities. A spokesperson for the company confirmed that the service ended last week. “In Yahoo we’re constantly reviewing and iterating on our products as we strive to create the best user experience.”However, Yahoo Screen has not earned a relevant number of followers nor has it become a significant source of income. According to figures from comScore, visits to Yahoo Screen in the U.S. have declined up to 28% between October 2013 and October 2015. Instead, the tech giant plans to extend its video offer through separate digital platforms. “Now, with more than 800 million monthly users in Yahoo -up to 20% in the last 15 months- we are reaching significant user participation and traffic” explained the Yahoo spokesperson. However in the third quarter of 2015, the company results did not reflect this positive spirit, recording US$86 million in operating loss.
