Content in Spanish is seeing a boom. 2018 was a year of growth for RTVE in which its sales increased 60% mainly with the drive of the US and Latin American markets.

“Now, there is a huge demand for content and there is a competition between platforms for engaging users and for them not to leave. We have been making very good level productions and now Spanish production is being recognized for entrance into other markets, something that the phenomenon of La Casa de Papel has helped a great deal,” commented María Jesús Pérez, International Sales director at RTVE.

Among the recent distribution agreements is the one reached with DIRECTV Latin America for the series El Continental, on drug pushing, and Reinas, that recreates the story of Queen Elizabeth. La Otra Mirada, whose second season is in production, was also sold in the region to the platforms of pay TV and SVOD.

During Natpe, they presented their doctor series for primetime, Hospital Valle Norte (10×70’), launched this month in Spain; Derecho a Soñar, a daily delivery about lawyers of which they have already shot two 65-episode seasons (50 minutes each episode). In the catalog, they have two films for television, Asesinato en la Universidad, set in the 16th century in the University of Salamanca, and Lope Enamorado, on the author´s love life.

They also presented the application RTVE Play, that will be available only in the Americas the second quarter of 2019. The strength of the low-cost subscription platform (US$2,99 per month) will be fiction with films and musical entertainment
