Bob Bakish, CEO of Viacom, offered in a press conference the results of the second quarter of the year and gave details of the new production strategy of contents for SVOD platforms and third parties.

Bakish announced the initiative of creating studios linked to their brands, which already started with MTV, Nickelodeon and Viacom International Media Networks. This formula will reach brands like Comedy Central and BET. “The idea is to create new first-window contents for SVOD platforms and other third parties, not selling library contents. We are applying what we learned with Paramount TV. We see this as a way to extend our brands to other platforms and generate greater income”.

The income Viacom intends to obtain in 2020 for this initiative in their production business is around US$1 billion. “We´ve already reached agreements with Netflix, Amazon, Telemundo and FOX, among others, with a long list of prospects in different development stages”.

Regarding their performance in the second quarter of 2018, Viacom informed they closed with a 4% drop in their income and a 25% fall in their profit.
