Organizers of the 60th Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity, an event that celebrates creative excellence in advertising and communications, said they were pleased to announce that in 2013 its prestigious Lion of St. Mark prize will be awarded to legendary ad man Lee Clow, chairman of TBWAMedia Arts Lab and global director of Media Arts for TBWAWorldwide.The prize honors Clows long, distinguished career creating landmark campaigns.”Clow is a creative icon, a source of inspiration and a genius at telling brand stories in an artful way – and not least a true Californian surfer” said Terry Savage, chairman of the Cannes Lions Festivals. “Remaining true to his beliefs coupled with his fresh approach to work has led him to create some of the greatest campaigns ever made. It is with pride and honor that we present him with the Lion of St. Mark for his outstanding contribution to creativity in communications” he said.About the honor, Clow said ”I’ve been to Cannes many times, I’ve won some awards, but wow, this one is special. What an honor. Just to be in the company of John and Dan makes me proud,” he added, a reference to previous Lion of St. Mark winners Dan Wieden and Sir John Hegarty.Lee Clows career in advertising spans 40 years.
