UCI acquired the website The Root aimed at Afro Americans

Univision Communications Inc. (UCI) acquired The Root, the outstanding Internet site with news, opinion and culture for Afro Americans.The Root will use UCI’s digital production facilities and journalistic infrastructure, while its publishing team will keep its voice and continue devoted to their mission, which has made them successful throughout their history.”This new and daring alliance between Univisión and The Root makes evident the links that have united dark skinned people throughout the Western Hemisphere for quite some time, and is an indicator of an even greater level of communication, collaboration and exchange between these culturally vital people”, stated Henry Louis Gates Jr., Director of the Hutchins Center for African and African American Research in Harvard University and President of The Root.The Root has a monthly average of 5 million unique users, according to ComScore.”The same as Univisión, The Root aims to address a significant segment of the diverse population of the US”, said Isaac Lee, President of News and Digital Media at UCI and CEO of Fusion. “This innovative alliance increases our capability of fulfilling the mission we share of informing and empowering our communities”.
