Actress Martha Higareda
With extensive experience in film and TV, the Mexican actress who had the lead role in Teleset´s series El Mariachi, is now part of Disney´s new non-animated film, McFarland, in which the Latin community has an important presence. In an interview with PRODU, the actress highlighted Latino´s work in the industry of film and TV in the US, and assured that “now is a peak moment for this community, when each one of the studios is seeking a way to reach the Latin market. We have a strong voice and are being given more and more relevance and roles.”Higareda´s first job on TV was in the Disney Channel program Zapping Zone, that is why “to be part of McFarland is like coming back home, where there are still doors open to continue working on film and TV projects”.The young actress shares the screen in McFarland with Kevin Costner and plays the role of Lupita, “a woman who represents part of us as a Latin culture. I am very interested in these characters because I travel a lot to the US and as many of the people there, I went looking for an opportunity. Disney knew how to reflect that part in an honest, warm and fun Mexican style, because we need to be seen that way”.McFarland is inspired in a true story from 1987 and follows the path of a group of rookie runners with financial difficulties which struggles to form a cross-country team.
