Canal 22 Internacional will take viewers on a historical, cinematic journey in July, presenting several critically acclaimed hits from Somos Magazines celebrated list of the 100 Greatest films of Mexican cinema. All of these filmsairing on Thursday nights at 8pm PST/11pm ESTwere produced during the Golden Age of Mexican cinema (1940 to 1970), when quality and economic success of the cinema of Mexico reached its peak. Somos Magazine broke new ground when it published the industrys first-ever list of most revered and admired Mexican movies. In compiling the list in 1994, top filmmakers and critics were assembled to vote. On July 3, Una Familia de tantas (Number 5) kicks off the special screenings for the month of July. Directed and written by Alejandro Galindo and star by Fernando Soler, David Silva and Martha Roth.On July 10, La Otra (Number 25) stars Dolores del Río in a dual role as identical twin sisters who go their separate ways but are later reunited. On July 17, La Barraca (Number 36) is considered one of the best produced movies of 1945. Directed by Robert Gavaldon and with a cast that includes Domingo Soler, Anita Blanch and Amparo Morillo. On July 24, Susana, carne o demonio (Number 46). The 1951 film is directed by Luis Buñuel.Rounding things out is the last special screening, Espaldas Mojadas (Number 97), the story of Rafael Amendola, who escapes across the Mexican border into the United States.
